How often should my furnace be serviced?
Once a year, ideally in the fall before heating season. A tune-up keeps the furnace running efficiently and catches small problems before they turn into a no-heat call.
Furnace repair
Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
The most common causes are a dirty flame sensor that shuts the burners off, a failed igniter, a clogged filter that makes the furnace overheat and shut down its burners, or a problem with the gas supply. Check that the thermostat is set to heat and the filter is clean. If it still blows cold, call for a repair.
Why does my furnace keep turning on and off?
Short-cycling usually means the furnace is overheating from a dirty filter or blocked vents, the flame sensor is faulty, or the thermostat is in a bad spot. A furnace that is too large for the house can also short-cycle.
Do you repair furnaces at night and on weekends?
Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call (717) 758-8664.
Furnace installation
How long does a furnace last?
Most furnaces last about 15 to 20 years with regular maintenance. Past that, efficiency drops and repairs get more frequent.
What brand of furnace do you install?
We specialize in installing Rheem furnaces. We service and repair all major brands.
Are furnace replacement estimates free?
Yes. Estimates are free. Call (717) 758-8664 or request one online.
Boiler repair & replacement
Do you repair steam boilers?
Yes. We repair and maintain both steam and hot-water boilers.
Do you install new boilers?
Yes. We replace old boilers with new ones sized to your home, keeping your existing radiators or baseboard. Estimates are free: call (717) 758-8664 or request one online.
How long does a boiler last?
Most residential boilers last about 20 to 30 years with yearly maintenance, longer than a typical furnace. Past that, efficiency drops and parts get harder to find.
Can I replace my boiler with a furnace and central air?
Yes. We can remove the boiler and radiators and install a gas furnace, ductwork, vents and a central air conditioner. We will walk you through the options and costs of replacing the boiler versus converting.
Why are my radiator pipes banging?
Banging usually comes from air or trapped water in the pipes, especially in steam systems, or from mineral buildup inside the boiler. It is worth having checked, because it often points to a problem that gets worse over time.
Air conditioning
Do you offer emergency AC repair in York, PA?
Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your air conditioning stops working, call (717) 758-8664.
What brands of air conditioners do you repair?
We service and repair all major brands of central air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits. For new systems, we specialize in installing Rheem equipment.
How often should my AC be serviced?
Once a year, ideally in the spring before cooling season. A tune-up keeps it efficient and catches small problems before the first hot week.
AC repair
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
The most common causes are a dirty filter or coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor, or an outdoor unit that is not running. Check that the thermostat is set to cool and the filter is clean. If it still is not cooling, call for a repair.
Why is there ice on my AC lines?
Ice usually means the indoor coil is getting too cold, most often from restricted airflow (a dirty filter or coil) or low refrigerant. Turn the AC off and let it thaw, and run the fan to speed it up. Then have it checked, because running it frozen can damage the compressor.
Do you repair air conditioners at night and on weekends?
Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call (717) 758-8664.
Refrigerant leak repair
Can you just recharge my AC with Freon?
Refrigerant doesn’t get used up, so if the system is low, it’s leaking. A recharge without a repair gets you cooling again, but the refrigerant leaks back out, often within weeks or months. We find the leak first. On an old system with a very slow leak, a recharge can be a reasonable stopgap while you plan a replacement, and we’ll tell you if that’s the case.
How do I know if my AC has a refrigerant leak?
Common signs are warm air from the vents, ice on the copper lines or indoor coil, a hissing sound near the unit, and a system that needs a recharge every year. A dirty filter can cause some of the same symptoms, so check that first. Only a pressure check confirms the charge is low.
Is a refrigerant leak dangerous?
A small leak from a home air conditioner usually isn’t a health emergency, but it will hurt the system: a compressor running low on refrigerant overheats and can fail, which is the most expensive repair on an AC. Turn the system off if the coil is iced up. If you smell a strong chemical odor indoors, open windows and call.
What if my AC uses R-22 refrigerant?
R-22, the old Freon, hasn’t been made or imported in the U.S. since 2020, so what’s left is scarce and expensive. A small R-22 leak can still be repaired, but on a leaking R-22 system, replacing it with a new system usually makes more sense than refilling it.
Do you fix refrigerant leaks in heat pumps?
Yes. A heat pump has the same refrigerant circuit as an air conditioner, so finding and repairing a leak works the same way. Call (717) 758-8664.
AC installation
How long does a central air conditioner last?
Most central air conditioners last about 12 to 15 years with regular maintenance. Past that, efficiency drops and repairs get more frequent.
Should I replace my AC and furnace at the same time?
Not always. If both are near the end of their life, replacing them together can save on labor and makes sure the system is matched. If your furnace is fairly new, replacing just the AC and coil is often fine.
Are AC replacement estimates free?
Yes. Estimates are free. Call (717) 758-8664 or request one online.
Ductless mini-splits
Do you repair mini-splits you didn’t install?
Yes. We service and repair ductless mini-splits from every major brand, whoever installed them. Call (717) 758-8664.
Can a mini-split heat my home in winter?
Yes. Ductless mini-splits are heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. Cold-climate models keep heating well in Pennsylvania winters, though many homes keep another heat source for the coldest days.
How many indoor units do I need?
It depends on the size and layout of the space. One indoor unit can handle an open area or a single room. Several rooms usually need several units connected to one or more outdoor units.
How often should a mini-split be cleaned?
Rinse the indoor unit filters every month or two during heavy use, and have the system professionally cleaned and checked once a year.
Water heaters
Do you install tankless water heaters?
Yes. We install, repair and maintain both tank and tankless water heaters.
Do you offer emergency water heater service?
Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your water heater is leaking or you have no hot water, call (717) 758-8664.
Water heater repair
Do you repair electric water heaters?
Yes. We repair gas, electric and propane water heaters. On an electric tank, no hot water or water that runs out fast usually means a failed heating element or thermostat, which is often a straightforward repair.
Why do I have no hot water?
On a gas water heater, the most common causes are a pilot light that has gone out, a bad thermocouple, or a failed gas valve. On an electric water heater, check for a tripped breaker; otherwise a heating element or thermostat has likely failed.
Why is my water heater leaking?
Water can come from the relief valve, the drain valve, a loose fitting, or the tank itself. Valves and fittings can be repaired. If the tank is leaking, it needs to be replaced. Turn off the water supply and the gas or power to the heater, and call for service.
Why does my water heater make popping noises?
Popping or rumbling usually means sediment has built up at the bottom of the tank and water trapped under it is boiling. Flushing the tank can help. Heavy buildup also shortens the heater’s life.
Water heater replacement
How long does it take to replace a water heater?
A straight swap of a standard tank usually takes a few hours. Moving to a different type, such as switching to tankless, can take longer because of gas, venting or electrical changes.
What size water heater do I need?
It depends on how many people live in the home and how much hot water you use at once. Many homes use a 40 or 50 gallon tank. We will size it to your household.
Are water heater estimates free?
Yes. Estimates are free. Call (717) 758-8664 or request one online.
Tankless water heaters
Do you repair tankless water heaters?
Yes. We repair and maintain tankless water heaters from every major brand. Most problems show up as an error code, so note it if you see one, then call (717) 758-8664.
Is a tankless water heater worth it?
It often is for households that run out of hot water or plan to stay in the home long-term, because it lasts longer and does not run out. The upfront cost is higher than a tank, and some homes need gas line or venting upgrades.
How long does a tankless water heater last?
Up to 20 years with proper maintenance, compared with 8 to 12 years for a typical tank water heater.
Does a tankless water heater need maintenance?
Yes. Plan on flushing and descaling it about once a year, more often with hard water, and cleaning the inlet filter. It keeps the unit efficient and extends its life.
Heat pumps, air quality & more
Homeowner tips
How often should I schedule HVAC maintenance?
Twice a year: once in the spring for your cooling system and once in the fall for your heating system. Regular maintenance keeps the system running efficiently and helps prevent unexpected breakdowns.
How often should I replace my HVAC air filter?
Every 1 to 2 months, depending on the type of filter, how much the system runs and the air quality in your home. A clean filter keeps the system efficient and improves indoor air quality.
If I’m going away, should I turn my system off?
No. Leave it running and turn it down no more than 5 degrees.
How long does a water heater last?
A traditional tank water heater usually lasts 8 to 12 years. A tankless water heater can last up to 20 years with proper maintenance. Flushing the tank and checking the anode rod regularly can help extend its life.
How can I make my HVAC system more energy efficient?
Keep up with regular maintenance, replace air filters often, seal any leaks in your ductwork and consider a programmable thermostat. Upgrading to energy-efficient equipment can also lower your energy use and bills.
Emergency HVAC service
Are you really available 24/7?
Yes. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights and weekends. Call (717) 758-8664.
Should I call at night or wait until morning?
Call at night for no heat in cold weather, no AC when someone in the house is vulnerable to heat, a leaking water heater, or a burning smell. If it can safely wait, we’ll tell you, and we can often walk you through getting by until morning.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the house right away without switching anything on or off, then call 911 or your gas company’s emergency line from outside. Once it’s safe, call us for the repair.
Do you handle emergency water heater repair?
Yes. Call (717) 758-8664 for a water heater that’s leaking or has stopped heating. While you wait, turn off the cold-water valve at the top of the tank and the gas or power to the heater.
Do you offer emergency service in my town?
We serve York and the surrounding area. See our service areas, or call and ask about your address.
Heat pumps
Do heat pumps work in Pennsylvania winters?
Yes. Modern heat pumps heat well through most of a York County winter, and cold-climate models keep working efficiently well below freezing. Many homes pair a heat pump with a furnace or electric backup heat for the coldest days.
What’s the difference between a heat pump and an air conditioner?
An air conditioner only cools. A heat pump is built the same way but can run in reverse, so the same outdoor unit also heats your home in fall, winter and spring.
Do you service all heat pump brands?
Yes. We service and repair heat pumps from every major brand. For new systems, we specialize in installing Rheem equipment.
Indoor air quality
Is a whole-home humidifier worth it?
In York County winters it often is. It keeps humidity comfortable in every room without refilling portable units, and comfortable humidity can make the house feel warmer at the same thermostat setting.
Will a better filter hurt my system?
A filter that is too restrictive for your system can reduce airflow. A whole-home air cleaner with a deep media filter avoids that problem, because it filters better without choking the airflow.
HVAC maintenance
What’s included in a furnace or AC tune-up?
A furnace tune-up in the fall covers the burners, igniter and flame sensor, heat exchanger, safety controls, venting, blower and filter. An AC tune-up in the spring covers the outdoor coil, refrigerant pressures, capacitor and contactor, condensate drain, and the indoor coil and blower.
Do you offer HVAC maintenance plans?
Yes. We offer maintenance plans tailored to your system, with regular inspections, cleanings and tune-ups. Call (717) 758-8664 to set one up.
Thermostat installation
Will a smart thermostat work with my system?
Most smart thermostats work with most furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps. Some need a common wire (C-wire) for power, and heat pumps and dual-fuel systems need a thermostat that supports them. We check compatibility and add wiring if needed.
Where should a thermostat be installed?
On an interior wall in a room you use often, away from supply vents, windows, sunlight, lamps and the kitchen, so it reads the true temperature of the house.
Can a thermostat cause my furnace or AC to short-cycle?
Yes. A thermostat in a bad spot, a failing sensor, or the wrong settings can make the system turn on and off too often. It is one of the first things we check.
Ductwork & vents
Why is one room always hotter or colder than the rest?
Usually because that room is not getting enough airflow: the duct run is long or undersized, a duct is crushed or disconnected, or there is no return. It can also be the room itself, such as large windows or a space over a garage.
Can you add ductwork to a home with a boiler?
Yes. We can install complete ductwork along with a furnace and central air when converting from a boiler. For a single room or addition, a ductless mini-split is another option.
Do leaky ducts really matter?
Yes. Leaks in ducts that run through attics, crawlspaces or unfinished basements can waste a large share of the heating and cooling you pay for, and pull dust into the system.
Gas line & system relocation
Can you move my furnace or water heater?
Yes. We relocate furnaces, water heaters and other HVAC equipment, including the gas line, venting and connections that go with them.
Can you move or extend a gas line?
Yes. We move and reroute gas lines for HVAC equipment and test every connection for leaks before the job is done.
How do I get a quote for a relocation?
Call (717) 758-8664 or request a free estimate online. We will look at the job and give you a quote.
